Mame Clothing >Extras >Articles >Gothic Fashion - Is the man skirt making a come back?

One thing I never thought to order in or even realised that there was a market for until recently is the man skirt. Not only have I not come across them in the catalogs from our wholesalers but no one had been asking for them (aside from one die hard Man Skirt fan, you know who you are.) Until recently I had never really come across them. Sure I had seen some metal bands in promo shots wearing them but I always wondered, where are they buying them?

Heavy Red has now come out with the man skirt. I was attempting to maximize an order while ordering one for “the die hard man skirt fan” I decided to get a few of them. They sold out within a few days and stranger than that I am now getting increasing requests for them. Those who have one want more, even the girl’s skirts are starting to looking attractive to the guys when faced with having to wait for more to come in.

Some guys have mentioned that they never imagined being a fan of he man skirt, but when they actually see it in person and see that it can actually be quite masculine, they change their tune.

So is this an Australian wide phenomenon?  I have only had a few email requests from other states but I have to wonder if it is just because guys don’t yet know they are available? I didn’t see any when I was last in Melbourne but are they popular in other states and I'm simply not aware?

Overseas I am yet to see them in the USA, even though Heavy Red have produced man skirts before and they are based in the USA. No luck in Japan, although I saw plenty of other great extreme fashion styles. However, I know they are big in Germany, if I ordered from Germany I’d have about 40 styles to choose from.

So, has Australia finally embraced the man skirt? Is it just a fad? Or is the man skirts popularity just beginning to bloom? I guess only time will tell.

Heavy Red’s latest man skirt style is now available in store at Mame Clothing.
