Good Make up always starts with a good foundation. It’s fine to have awesome eye make up or an incredible shade of lip stick but if your base is too dry or oily guess where the focus will be.

Most people who ask about our make up are looking to go white, but not too white. Pale is a good goal but not “The Crow” pale. Having said that some people do aim to go that white, which is sometimes referred to as 'corpse paint.'

So I have a few basic guidelines to help pick the right product for you.

Firstly, if you are one of those people who do want to go White-white i.e. Crow or Geisha white you have 2 options. If it’s a one off or for a special event you can’t go past Manic Panic’s Goth White Cream Powder. It is as the name suggests a mix of cream and powder that gives you a matt finish. The more you put on the whiter you get. If you are prone to dry skin you should moisturise before use to prevent flaking.

If you plan on using it in a more subtle way and wearing it more often you should invest in Dreamtone Liquid Foundation as well as a white powder. Both the Virgin Press Powder and Bloody Mary’s setting powder are great options. Though I would recommend trying it with both the sponges provided or with a wide make up brush to see what works best for you. I have had people say the make up is too “caked on” with the sponge. That is easily solved by using a wide brush so you can control the amount applied better and slowly add more if you choose.

To go paler but not white you have many options:

  1. You could use only a small amount of Goth white powder and apply evenly all over the face.
  2. You could use your “regular” liquid foundation and use a brush to apply a small amount of white powder (i.e. Virgin Press Powder or Bloody Mary’s Setting powder) to set the liquid foundation.
  3. Use your “regular” liquid foundation and use a shade up from white powder. i.e. Manic Panic’s “Moonlight” Powder or Bloody May’s Translucent Setting Powder. Use as you would any regular face powder.
  4. If you prefer to just use Liquid on it’s own you can just use a pale natural shade of liquid foundation and mix it with a small amount of Dreamtone Liquid Foundation.

Any way you go you need to find a combination to work for you. Don’t be afraid to experiment, that’s part of the fun. Just remember if your prone to dryness moisturize first and if you’re prone to oiliness finish with a powder to prevent shine.

Manic Panic and Bloody Mary Foundations are in store now and available for purchase online. For our current available range check out the “Cosmetics” page of our site.
